Weather: wet but warm and calm.

Bait: Rag and mackeral

Rigs: 2 hook paternosters

Results: 2x dogs, 2x coalies, 1x flounder, 1x plaice and crabs, crabs and more crabs

Well I been meaning to try this venue for quite some time and so I finally got round to it. The drive down to the beach is quite spectacular and narrow. Take your eye off the road for a second and you'll be rolling down the steep side of a cliff!! The views are amazing though.

Anyway onto the fishing, the beach is very narrow but looked fishy and in the first hour I had 3 fish in 3 casts. First came a wee flounder and then a nice wee plaice on the 2nd. Not of any size really but my first plaice of the year so I was happy. As the light began to fade I hit 2x dogs, the second of which was a great size and the one I took a photo of. As we got into darkness things went quiet and in the final 2 hours I only managed 2x piddley coalies. The crabs seemed to be out in force, in fact they walking about the tide line so fu*ks knows how many were actually in the water!! In the end the constant drizzle and lack of bites got the better of me and I packed up. The thought of the drive back up the road in the dark and mist was making me nervous too.

I'll definitely be back again but maybe do a daylight fish as I think this could be a promising flattie mark.

I do have photos but as usual I can't upload as I'll need to resize them!!! arrghhh

i fished the same place a number of years ago and about a tenners worth of bait was eaten by crabs that day

good effort Tony, nice to see a report from that wee area. always was wondering how it would fish from the beach.
not particularly a lot of fish but will be interested to hear how you get on next time too!

Open your pictures on the computer, then click on 'Open', then 'Microsoft Office Picture Manager' then 'Edit Pictures' a list of options appears. Select 'Resize Pictures'; click on 'Percentage of original width X height', reduce percentage until 'New Size in Pixels' is less than 840 wide, you should then be able to attach the pic to your report. Hope this helps!

i have fished from those rocks/stones along the far side there and caught some very decent pollack...

Glad you managed to sort out the re-sizing! Nice pics, the plaice in particular. I like the row of spots along the base of the fins. Did you consider trying floating beads on your hooklengths, they might help reduce the crab attacks?

How far along the rocks would you fish for the pollock? Is there much depth? I was wandering if you could set up a tripod along there and maybe hit the sand.

Never tried floating beads but might be worth a shot. The calm conditions might have played a part too in the number of crabs. The same thing happens on Benone.

not that far at all, maybe just a hundred yards or so and you should get them, and im sure that they would come right intot he beach anyways.. along the weed-line. they hang around in the weed but mainly along the edge of the weed where it meets the sand.
you can see the edge of the weed, i.e. the start of the sand, very easily on a clear day. probably could manage to set up a tripod and defo should be able to easily cast to get out to the sand. getting the fish in over the weed might be the tricky bit tho! and clambering across the broken boulders is a pain at times... its not too deep as far as i can recall, maybe only 10-15', not sure.
have never fished the sand out there but would be v.interested to hear how you get on....
