decided to try laytown again for bass,,, we got there this morning and the weather was great, not a bit of wind and flat calm sea,,
not one bass caught but my dad caught a 3lb mullet on ragworm,,

i had casted out a 2 hook trace baited with rag also and as soon as it hit the water the rod start hopping,, but completly different bite,,, i had hooked 2 seagulls,, disaster,, they must have saw the bait and dived under for it,, anyways to cut the story,, we finally unhooked the gulls and they flew off into not a bother on them,, here is a quick vid that dave took of it,,

Good result with the mullet and the seagulls. Looks a bit calm for bass in daylight :)

Im delighted to see a fish come off Laytown! My Sister and her husband are living down there 5 years and I stopped bringing the gear down when we're visiting 2 years ago!! I was convinced Bettystown/Laytown were deserts!

its only worth fishing it the last 3hrs of the incoming tide, and a half hour on the drop after fulltide, pity there wasnt a bit of surf to stir up the water a bit, there plenty being caught on it now,

if it has a good surf you can get bass at any stage of the tide its such a big beach finding them can be difficult :|

Lads I was in laytown about 5 weeks ago and the place was alive with fish. I didn't hook up on the spinning gear but for the last 2 hours of the rise there were good fish breaching and jumping all around me !!! I was out to my waist and got a few follows right in to 6 foot of me on kiltys. Didn't catch but it was great to see so much life in the area. I'll definitely bring my gear with me thee next time I'm heading to the area.
