Report:
Well I suppose the only way to start this is from the beginning so heads up, grab your tea or coffee and enjoy………the trip started out as normal, a quick run around to get bait etc, I bought a new flotation suit as the winter season is firmly making its presence felt, and after the last experience on Arklow beach (finished a late night fishin session, packed up had a smoke outside the car and watched a huge wave roll over the place I was just fishin

), we planned the trip to leave around 1pmish and be at the 1st mark shortly after that to pick up a few mackerel for the late night session. Arrived at a small rock area outside Killiney just after 3pm (got delayed chattin to people EVERYWHERE!!:D ) Was talking to the lads that were fishing there when they kindly informed us that a mackerel hasn’t been seen in hours, none the less Sparkey+1 and myself took out the light gear, and started, 2nd cast Sparkey+1 had a full shot of macks on feathers, 3rd cast for me was the same, some were just to small to keep and use as bait so we agreed on a standard size and figured about 6-10 would do, my son was kept busy bagging them and throwing the smaller ones back (using a wetted towel) !!! I think about after 10 casts (less then 30minutes) we had enough to do us for the night and promptly set about heading off to our second mark, leaving the other lads that had been fishing there a few hours slightly stunned and miffed!! The 2nd mark was a good drive away but we were fully loaded as my six year old son was coming on his very first night fishin trip, we had the tent, stove, and fryin pan ready. Arrived to the second location a couple of hours later and started about setting the tent up while Sparky got his lines in order, after a short time all the lines were in the water fully baited and waiting…(at this point out came the kettle for a well deserved cuppa!!)….my long distance rod took a good tug, then nothing, reeled in a slight bit I could feel it was a doggie of good size and Sparky took one shortly after of the same size.. at that’s how the night went, kept busy, my son was lovin every bit of it, being able to see the stars and he even saw a shootin star, and all the fish!! The moon made appearance and it was low and orange. So after a few more cast hooked into a good size hermit crab!! lmao.. the greedy little fella wasn’t even hooked he simply didn’t want to let go of the bait!!! Sadly though one doggie couldn’t be returned as the hook was deeply imbedded and died a very short time afterwards, so being of the waste not society, took it home

all the doggies were measuring over the 1lb weight the last fish of the night was a small dab and we finished around 2am, so after sometime packin and loading the car we were about to hit the road home…. (this is were the story should end right??? …NOPE!!..read on for the laugh!!) Well the car fully loaded Sparkey noticed the front passenger wheel was flat, so unloaded the car took out the spare and back on the road…(the end now??.....nope!) we were just about to get onto the M11 When….”BANG” front passenger wheel (same one) hit a massive nail ?? Two flats one spare wheel uh oh!! Well thank flook I have roadside assistance…had a chat to a lovely a girl called Kim and a rescue vehicle was on its way,… 3 ½ hours later (the kettle was going to come out again!!) we saw the amber lights Yeppieeeee and it was towing our rescue car a Suzuki Swift, we loaded a Volvo V70 estate to the gills so it was apparent that some of the gear was going to be left behind….but none the less we were about to be on our way again.. Paudy (pronounced Pawdy) was our saviour (thanks mate!!) and fishes locally and was freely telling us of nice marks to try out and oddly enough he viewed towing similar to fishin. Our car was the largest catch of the night so he was thrilled.. after a short good bye we were on the road home but the ribbing I got from Sparky about me driving a manual car (haven’t drivin one in years as my old beast is an automatic!!) … got me thinking I’ll take up throwing stones at him next time were on the beach!! Oh and not to forget Henry (of the famous Henrys tackle shop) gave me a loan of a head lamp to try/buy, and I was very impressed with it!! (watchout Fishface!!)

As I gave my son my old one, by the way my son LOVED the whole night fishin experience and next time he’ll be fishin himself as this time he just wanted to watch… I know him.. he watches, learns, then out fishes me!!!

….So is this the end of the trip??? (I hear ya say) Nope… as there is still an unwritten part two which will be included as I have to pick up the car back in Wexford, so there’s no point in driving all that way with a car fully loaded with fishin gear and not get a line wet now is there???

Till then Tight lines to you all!!!
