Report:
Well this trip was supposed to head to the magical place that is Ennreilly, but due to unforseen work commitments was cancelled and brought closer to home :( so headed out to a mark which I blanked on thinking (hopin) the weed was gone and after a couple of false starts (running back and forth to the houses I forgot this and he forgot that!!! pure excitment about getting away and getting the lines wet!) we finnally got to our first mark, tide was just on the flood with very little weed to show I was over the moon (until work rang looking for stuff delaying important fishing time!!!) have to find a mark that is out of coverage !! surf was lovely but on the high water and from there on out weed was thick mixing of kelp, mermaids hair ,and seagrass close to shore and had to set the lines tight and tripod up high to try and avoid the weed but as soon as one piece snagged the line it brought the lines into the thick weed... on the long distance rod got a knock it was baited with a healthy lug single hook clipped down, then another small knock, a male grey bull seal went swimming by and carried on, i waited till tere was a positive knock on the long line and brought in the short/mid one rigged with a flounder trace and rag/mack mix.....bait was gone, and the weed was very thick on the line, so cleared the lineand brought in the long distance and notice it was heavier then it went out.... hmmm... brought it in, and a nice size mackerel had taken the Lug  , I've caught mackerel on mackerel, and on rag, but this is the first time I caught a mack on lug! anyways a short time later Sparkey and myself got sick of pulling weed in by the tonne and decided to see what other marks could be found, after a very short drive found ourselves in a little tiny harbour where some lads were fishin, the ground was rough and kelp weed could be seen in the water close to the wall, the mackerel were doin well though very small mainly joeys but I put on small feathers and worked the rough ground with light gear and managed a small pollock, and then what Im 85% sure is a coalfish (which you guys can help me on) its got the classic V shaped tail and greenish flesh... well both Sparkey and myself pulled in a few fish of the day but only kept one Mackerel all others were unhandled back to the sea (one of the little joeys was released swam straight out, and then straight back into the harbour wall OUCH!!!) all in all a great time!! oh and the Dogfish was a PB so far this year taken the night before in Arkla!!
