People: Me, Skelly, The Cramp James, Monkeywrasse aka Chef
Duration: 5pm Saturday - 9am Sunday!
Tide: Up at 8.10pm Saturday then down, then back up, then back down again.
Weather: Excellent. Dry all the way. Few little bursts of wind from time to time. Glorious on Sunday morning.
Bait: Rag, Lug, Crab, Mack, Sandeel, Squid
Rigs: Pulleys, Flappers, Up and Over
Results: We all had a load of pup smuts. Me and Skell had a few Tub Gurnards. James had a nice 4lb smoothie but Monkey got the biggest at 6lb.
Report: Me and Chef (Mr Wrasse) hit the beach at about 5pm. The lads had to follow us down as someone wanted to watch the pool stumble around the pitch and pretend to be professional footballers.

As soon as my rig was in the water I had a pup smut on Rag. Things looked good and a few more followed. Got a nice knock and lost something big on peeler. Wonder what that was haha. The lads finally arrived after 7ish I think and we were all fishing away soon after. There was a bunch of French folks beside us camping and singing but as the tide was big we couldnt move much further down. Not too worry, a load of the lassies decided to strip down and splash around in the rollers. Needless to say the fishing went slow.
Picked up when the sun decided to leg it as it usually does. The fire was lit, the beers were opened and the rods were rebaited. At this stage we were only catching smuts and dogs. This beach usually throws up a fair few flats we thought then came to the conclusion there must be something big patrolling. I had caught a small huss on this beach a few weeks ago and Id say the tope lads would come in too so the heavy traces and big baits went out but no joy. Soon after the Gurnards started to show. Great little fish. The lads had a few of them last year and cooked them so I had to try one for myself. Head off, gutted and onto the fire. Absolutely beautiful. One of the nicest tasting fish Ive ever had and I like my seafood! While munching down on the grub prepared by chef I heard a shout from the man himself. "Fishy". Jogged over to see a lovely Smoothound arrive out from the bubbles. Weighed in at around 6lb. Quick pic and off he went. Chef was chuffed at his new PB. Shortly after Skelly hit the high road as he was up early for mass...
Things went slow but about 3 hours into the flood and the sun coming back up the fish started biting again. Few more pups, a nice 4lber for James and a little Dab for myself. The only flat of the whole session! James was chuffed with his PB smoothie. Thing must of knackered him as he fell asleep shortly after haha! Chef being the driver followed suit and went to put the head down for a few hours. Me being a sucker for punishment fished on for a while enjoying the amazing weather. About 10 I think the James fella awoke so we packed up and headed off... Not the most productive session going by the hours to fish ratio but was great craic to be out. Have been dyin to do an all nighter all summer. A few days down in Kerry at the end of the month shall hopefully cure the east coast blues of late. Watch this space...
