Try Arklow South Beach. I was there around 4p.m yesterday (high tide) and had new species to my repertoire - a 14inch Starry Smoothound. Hardly knew he was on the line until I was reeling in to finish the seesion! Took mixture of frozen mack tipped with squid and ragworm on second of Pennel Pulley rig. Conditions were indeed calm.

On a wexford beach on 18th august, during daylight and from full to dropping tide on an overcast, calm day we caught 4 smoothies ranging from 4lbs to 6.85lbs. A few pups were also taken but out of the better fish, 3 fell to peeler and 1 fell to a lug sausage  ( 6 or 7 lug bound side by side by elastic and fed on to the hook). The calmer sea seems to bring the better fish closer to shore.......the calmness of the sea has seemed to be a factor every time. Well for me anyway :D
