Report:
Decided to head down to North Wexford to tick the next box of my fishlist - a decent sized smoothie ! Got setup just before 20:00 in my usual spot and caught a dab(24cm) on my first cast - phew, blank saved ! He(or she) managed to swallow down a size 2/0 hook in its little gob with ease and after a couple of minutes of performing open mouth surgery I managed to get the hook out but the fish was losing blood rapidly and had to be put down. Haven't tasted dab yet, but will have a try for dinner later ! (I know the minimum size for dab is 20cm in UK, but is it the same in Ireland?)
Afterwards the hours flew by, as they do, and I managed to catch 2 pup smoothies. At high tide I was getting plenty of bites on the rag but nothing connected - they were big rag and were being stripped off by whatever is was. It was nearing time to pack up and leave so for the last half hour I stood watching the rod in hope for that big whollop and then the screaming reel but is wasn't to be........Instead I got a clumsy knock on the rod of a doggie who hit the bait and then
surrendered straight away. I dragged him in with the small consolation that it was the biggest fish of the night
Packed up and pointed the car in the direction of the big smoke and drove back, planning all the while.....the next session
