People:me

Duration:2pm-6pm

Tide:HW at 4pm

Weather: mostly good, south wind

Bait: macks, feathers

Results: none ;)

I had couple hours free so I decided to try fishing locally in Oranmore. First I headed to Tawin Island (10minutes driving by car). It looks like good spot in Google Maps but when you came here ,you will find that there is no straight way out to the shore... only fields, stone fences, sheeps, etc. I knew from maps that there is nice looking disused pier on the north coast of the Tawin tip, so I decided just go through some paths in the field and after 1km of walking I found the pier. Actually- it looks nice-40m long, concrete. There was a lot of rubbish after rigs at the end ,so this place is not as abandoned as it looks ;) Anyway I decided to spin a lttle bit ,but there was strong front facing wind and tides. Besides, there was quite a lot of weed (maybe because of wind blowing towards the shore) , so I after 1 hour I have to surrender.
Summing up- the place looks ok, but the depth at the end was maybe up to 2m I think and there was a lot of underwater plants, so snags snags snags. Maybe with better wind and longer casts it will give some results. It should produce good congers during the nights.
And one more thing -I discovered that there is something like a road to the pier- it starts beside the house 200m before the end of the road.
After that I decided to give a try to Ballinacourty Pier -deep water, long casts, but without macks around there was dead water. I saw few anglers looking for macks as well... maybe next month will give us some, because I'm running out of last year macks as a bait ,and that is no good at all ;)
It will be great to find some good fishing mark somwhere close by, because driving 50-70km one way to have a chance to cath a fish is really depressing ;)))))

there is an old road down to that pier alright - and as said is very overgrown

the weed in front goes out a good bit so youd want to be casting far to avoid the snags

ive only ever blanked off it - probably best for a bit of spinning this time of year

i did see a conger come off it and im sure its capable of throwing up a surprise - but like most of these places thats few and far between

ballynacourty pier is not as deep as you think at all - again if the mack are in plague proportions you will get them but very little on the bottom there

you have to walk up the shore 500m towards clarinbridge to get a shake in the rod
