Ballyhalbert Pier, Co Down, 26/07/11

Wed Jul 27, 2011 8:56 am

People: Gabbey, Shep, Drew

Duration: about 7.30pm - 11pm

Tide: Pushing

Weather: Lush!

Bait: Mackeral

Rigs: DDP, Feathers, Dangling Rigs, Float, Spinners

Results:

Dogfish, Pollack, Coalies, Shanny, Mackeral

Report:

It was set to be a pretty uneventful night, we'd had a few Pollack and Coalies, Gabbey had a Dog, and Shep had been Shanny bashing like a trooper, on the last cast we noticed a lot of fry on the surface, Some of it scattering as if it was being chased.

It was, 10 minutes later the water was boiling with fry, Mackeral were coming clean out of the water, and fry was being knocking at least 2 foot into the air by the savage fish ripping through the shoals and feeding hard. We fished spinners through the shoals on very light spinning gear... The takes were savage and the fish fought superbly.

Great end to the night...
