Report:
Well a day out up the coast was in order and Gabbey and I decided to try Benone for a spot of Flattie bashing, the beach was full... of swimmers, surfers, Jetskis, walkers, dogs, cars windbreakers and 1990 Vauxhall Cavaliers. Not to be put off we went to the quiet end of the beach and got two rods each set up.
With some immediacy we started picking up Flounders in Singles, doubles and trebles, Straight Mackeral, and Rag tipped with Mack was seriously doing the business, average fish, ranging from 20 to 30cm kept the rods nodding practically all day.
In the middle of all this I decided I needed my Turbot for the year, so started fishing Long mackeral strips on a loop rig, Managed 2 Turbot in 2 Casts, another species down for the year! Not to be outdone Gabbey got the biggest Turbot of the day with a 24cm fish.
A brief stop in Castlerock for some chips and it was time to find a little harbour for a spot of variety fishing.
We were considering Portstewart but there seemed to be a lot of Pier divers on it, so we shifted on round to good old Portrush.
When we got round here fishing was initially slow, soon Ronald and company arrived down though, and with one of Ronalds extra secret dangling rigs, Gabbey and I soon managed to bump the species lists up another bit, funniest moment was when a coalfish took the small baits and started charging about on the small spinning rod, great craic, thought I'd hooked a steam train!
With the arrival of 10.30pm (we WERE for leaving at 9pm), it was time to head home.
One of the best days Shore fishing I think I've ever had. Loved every moment of it.
