Ennereilly Nth 21st through to 22nd

Fri Jul 22, 2011 10:07 pm

People: Myself

Duration:9 pm to 6 am

Tide:

Weather:cloudy calm then clear

Bait:rag / Mac

Rigs: 1 rod, 2 hook flapper / 2 hook cilpped

Results: Multiple doggies.

Report: Arrived at Nth beach at 9pm, 1 other fisherman was there already and as I walked by him he told me he had blanked so things didnt seem good for my first attempt at this beach.

Started off by putting up the Ian Golds Igloo as I thought the chance of rain was good, but I neednt have bothered as it wasnt needed at all. No wind or rain.

First cast was at about 9.35 I'm no casting expert yet but I would guess Im reaching about 90m 2 hook clipped with 170g grip lead.

The bait was Rag tipped with Mac and I had just set rod tip taught when the 1st bite came 1st cast 1st fish doggie on the beach :D cant blank now I was delighted.

The same happened all night, bites every cast, I had planned to leave bait in water for 20 min max so had started timer on the mobile each cast. The 20 min wasnt reached all night.

I missed a few bites and lost a few fish on the way in and a couple in the last second as they cleared the water but still I was able to stop counting fish after 14 where unhooked and returned. I guess 20 doggies where landed.

I had planned on setting up a second rod but in all honesty it would have been too much work.

Its a pity they where all doggies but I tried max distance, close in, and midway but doggies where all I could find they where everywhere.

Still I enjoyed the night and was relieved to see the old banger was still in one piece when I got back to the carpark this morning.

Yeah 2 rods might have been a bit hard to cope with with them coming so thick and fast, pity you didnt get at least 1 other species just for the change. Not a dull session by the sounds of it, beats the dreaded blank, like the other fella got.

there seems be be a lot more dogs caught on the north beach were the sth beach gives you a lot more species i think but all in all you were kept busy and you beat the blank so a good night in the end well done

I were there at the south beach I think last friday, started at 18:00, HW was at around 20:00 and I got 500g Bass at my first cast on lugworm, and till 22:00 I got ~12 flatfish, 2 other tiny fish with teeth like shark has and black back flipper, don't know what was that, coz cought first time by me. 1 small whiting.. and no any dogfish

Just as I was thinking of packing up, maybe 5am, I witnessed many small fish about 3 to 6 inches long leaping from the water maybe only 20ft or less out from the shore. Only one jumper at a time but over a dozen leaps in total along the 100m of shore that was in front of me.

Could they have been trying to escape Bass?

i would hazard a guess and say yes, they were most likely being chased by bass. . . any time there are fry jumping out of the water, you can be sure something bigger is chasing them.
maybe a spinner in amongst them might have been a good idea

You are a lucky man. I would tend to take a weaver fish off the hook with a priest and a knife.

Maybe one of the more experienced anglers would post a list of fish we should be wary of ?
