Report:Well if there is a place that I can call wow its this part of the world after driving to cork on friday and staying over in the travel lodge

I needed something to cheer me up and as I approached bantry bay at 6:30am and seen blue skies I could allready taste success the last 20 mins of the drive felt like a lifetime and we finaly pulled up outside Paul Harris's B&B we were greated with a friendly handshake and would you like breakfast ?? fantastic as we were waiting to eat Henry Gilbey came and said hi and introduced his friend Nick Hart with the formalitys over we got down to talk fish Henry and nick had a good day on thursday but fishing was hard with only a couple taking flies and the rest on lures nevertheless I was still feeling confident "did I say confident" after quick eats we were ready to go and set off to crow head following Henry because he new the way and stopping on a few occasions to show us other spots for mullet..after a quick chat we worked out our plans Henry and Nick were going to go recky as far as they could and walked with us "did I say walk legs were like Jelly" to the point that they got fish tight lines and see ya laters were exchanged . I couldnt wait to get the line in the water and picked a spot that looked like it was very very bassy, big flatwing on and cast retrieve lift cast retrieve wallop fecking line pulled out of my hand and within seconds I was into the backing I remember at that point feeling confident that I had re-tied the knot on my backing to the fly line on thursday oops did I say confident again more like over fecking confident about 10 yards into the backing it decided to do a birds nest panic stations this fish was moving and pulling so hard I just couldnt get its head up and after a few seconds it was gone I can certainly say that john cleese beating a car with a tree has nothing on me more like buzz lightyear in a fit after realising he couldnt fly

oh how that sinking feeling started ,,here we go again why does southern Ireland hate me so much at this point stevie had allready hooked a small pollack and mick had lost one on the spinning gear we tried on for a bit but the wind was getting a tad uncomfortable so a move was in order we moved from spot to spot for a few hours stevie and mick getting pollack nothing huge but at least they were getting fish me however

I was having one of those moments you know the type of day you fall over your laces, you trip on a pebble and after putting your line through all the rings it decides to fall back through them when your not looking

well I had had enough and went to the car for a sulk

Then I had the bright idea of food a rest and maybe some mullet later on in the evening,,bit of advice here if your having a day like mine food and drink is great but head melting mullet is a big no no and thats it my first day in fishing heaven blankety blank I will pause now while you all laugh..............are ya done yet.......

I was dreading heading back to the B&B and answering that question " well how did ya go" but face it I did, Henry was the first to ask my reply was quick and simple "feck of I need a sword to fall on" he didnt laugh their day wasnt great either.. phew relief

so a quick pint or six and off to bed for another chuck in the morning..part two to follow
