Report:was a lovely evening to be out. had the codling on the first cast. we were having dogs the whole 12 hours nearly.
my personal mission was for my first decent smoothie, the other two lads havent done much sea fishing so were happy enough catching anything.
so about 1am after catching dogs every cast on my 2/0 flapper, loaded up my
4/0 pulley with a big crab bait.it wasnt touched for a couple of hours(i was still busy hauling in dogs on my smaller rod) then about 4am started to get some big knocks on my pulley but no hook up. so quick change to a different 4/0 pulley and i was getting big knocks again soon after but when i took the rod in my hand didnt feel like their was a fish on. so the rod is bouncing away in the rod stand and the lads are saying their has to be a fish on that and im saying it looks that way but certainly doesnt it feel like it. so reeled it in without too much resistance from the fish until the the last few yards and out pops a smoothie of about 3 pound, had only ever caught pups before so i was delighted.
about 7am then after our feed of sausages one of the lads caught an eel, i reckon it was one of these lads
