Report: fished a local point into a shallow channel for 2 hours on the drop on my own tuesday night - was very windy with no rain was expecting the crabs to be in plague proportions - but they were fine enough, weed wasnt too bad
was a long time since i fished here and with the mixed ground my memory wasnt so good and got snagged a good few times - lost one rig and nothing resembling a bit occured - still gear out for first time in 3 weeks
wednesday met up with rolly and headed down to try a spot in north clare - we dug a few lug and whites and had a good look at the spot - we waded out to this mad island made of coral and were going to spin for a while but the tide came fast and that was the end of that
cast into the channel and rolly picked up a jet black dog first cast - then as the water moved more so did the weed but not too bad - i was scratching infront with another rod - but no joy - the crabs were lethal there - lugs no chance mac about 5 mins
after 2 hours we packed up and went to a local pier - thinking we could pick up some small stuff and a few ray were got here round this time of year last year - however we didnt realise how sheltered we were in the channel and that the wind had gone 180 from the SE to NW - the wind was gusting really strong - small boat warning stuff and the bottom was getting churned a bit
figured this was a cause to nothing - bar the odd crab in 2 hours nothing was doing
went to dalys for a creamy pint on the way (excellent by the way) home and saw a mad picture of the flooding in 2009 - i thought it was niagra falls but then realised it was out the door of the pub down at the bay - if your ever passing get a look at it - amazing!
not to be out done with the blanks and having fresh bait at my disposal - i still wanted to head out yesterday - the driving wind and rain couldnt put me off - even though i delayed for a while thinking about fishing today(friday) instead
headed out conamara side and noticed a nice surf on a beach facing into the driving wind and rain and thought why not
had a small flounder on first cast - but he dropped off when i had him out of the water and got back in the wash of the wave
here we go again i thought - at least i had seen a fish
after an hour i brought in a weaver - the first ive ever hooked - which is remarkable with all the fishing ive done over the years and they are common enough on the beaches in the west
some small justification i suppose for going out
stayed on another hour and got a 19cm flounder on a white
and that was that
back home and the rods away for another while - just remembered the comp on sunday
