Anyone who is attempting to catch fish as long as I have will know that sometimes its only the love of the sport that keeps us thigh deep in freezing water when we could save a fortune and have a couple of pints followed by a cod supper for less!!!! After my worst run of blanks (5 in a row) in a few years, I hit the same mark two nights in a row, I know n the words of Fergal SHARKey shoulda known better but in fact lady luck was onside!!!
Fished the first night with BIG Fish. We could see Mullet rolling on the surface about twenty yards out ah sure it was a Thursday night what else would a mullet be doing and Sea trout jumping around like they had just swallowed the contents of a tank of red bull. I had just turned around to get my spinning gear and Big Fish hit into a fish, 2.5lb schoolie, about an hour later and he had a flounder, while i blanked again. Decided to head back out the following night to the same mark you know the rules, IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED and all that. Arrived and set up and was devestated with a capital D, no mullet or sea trout around and a lot more weed. About an hour in and got a flounder my run of blanks was over even if it was a small flounder. I had just broken down one rod to go home when the other start hopping. Picked it up and hit into a bass running left then right stopped me dead twice. Got it landed and even though i had no scales i know it is my PB bass and my first of the Year. Was I impressed....... Hell yes will I go back tonight???? Only if I can sneak out when the wife is asleep unfortunately!!!!!
