[b]Report: Headed to West Cork with the promise of good fishing from Trev whos originally from those parts. Thankfully the marks we fished last night were not the 3 day camel ride he put me through the last time! The plan was to fish the rocks first hoping to pull out some good pollack and macks. As the tide ebbed and night fell we hoped to move to a nearby Jetty and have a crack for some conger. A 5 minute walk from the car(joy!) had us on the rock mark. We were pulling out mackerel immediately upon casting out and they didnt disappear at any stage. This made life rather difficult when it came to looking for pollack, anything intended for them 9 times out of 10 ended up with a kamikaze mackerel swinging off it. The water was thick with them, all the way up to the edge of the rock. Switched over to a small toby lure on a light spinning rod and enjoyed great sport with them. Only sorry i hadnt brought the fly rod down with me, would have been a perfect opportunity to christen it! Any pollack we caught were on the small size with the odd one around the 2 1/2 pound mark.
As night drew in we gutted our fish and headed down to the nearby jetty. It would be a known spot for mackerel fishing in the summer and we hoped that the steady supply of bait from gutted fish etc would hold a few head of Conger. Head and guts on a 6/0 on a wire trace was the order of the day lobbed out about 10 yards from the jetty wall. Bites were sporadic, but we did manage to hook 3 nice fish. Biggest went about 12lb and put up quite a scrap.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable evenings fishing, plenty of sport to be had. Thats stage one of the weekend over with, off to Donegal this evening to fish round Tory Island, theres dedication for ya!
