Hi Arthur,

Was down in Helvic a few weeks ago on holidays, didn't fish cunnigar but might get down soon for a weekend hopefully,

I was just wondering how do you calculate high tide for cunnigar, what port do you use and what do you add/subtract to get your high water.

I also saw one of the trawlers taking off a box of salmon in helvic, sold them on the pier too

hi alby
south of ireland
tide tables
union chandlery l.t.d.
the tables for cobh are the same for dungarvan u do not have to +/- anything
eg. h.w 6.00 cobh
h.w 6.00 dungarvan
that ok?

Is this place a high water place only, or does it fish throughout the tide? Was thinking about heading down for a go on Sunday, don't fancy the long journey from Dublin though for only a coupleof hours fishing...

hi viper
it fishes at all stages only problum is the lower the tide the farther u have to walk spit is 2 miles long ucan drive down about one third the way on track to left of car park over stream
the tide for sun. is the best 4.0 m. h.w. is at 19.00 will be a few cought
best to fish the seaward side withthe hot spots being
1 THE POINT spin toby/kilty k./plugs bait/crab
2 CAR PARK 200 meters to right of c.p. around bend rocky patch many bass on a spin/redgill behind bubble cast over rocks retrieve slowly
3 WEEDS half way between sand hill/point 2 strips of wrack parrallel
about 30/ 40 meters out cast bait (lug/crab/sandeel) boyond and reteeve
to edge of weeds bream hotspot spin over weeds with flying C red/copper best colour u WILL get bass here
anything else? what time u getting here? mid tide to 1 hour after h;w
post how u get on
Arthur

Thanks for all the advice Arthur, gave the place a go on Sunday, caught both high tides at 6am and 7pm. Bit too rough though so not a fish to be caught, with the exception of dozens of freshwater eels throughout the day on ragworm. One guy trolling caught a small school bass but that was all I saw for the day..

How late into the year does it fish down there? Am off on Holidays (tuna/marlin fishing in San Diego heheh) for the next three weeks but might try to get down in mid october, assuming it still fishes well that late in the year...

Fished Cunnigar beach-3/9/05
Time: 4:00-7:00
on the right by the black rocks with Lug/Rag & spinners& lures for Bass, nothing but weed, lost a lot of rigs too, went home with just an eel to show for our troubles, very disheartened as we checked out the lie at low tide,( walked right up to the Oysters farm-locals said was teeming with Bass?)so much weed, that every cast was like dragging a sack.Is it always like this????

It was the same when I was there as well, had the rod stand pulled over countless times on account of the weight of weed catching in the current.

hi
weed only after S.E. wind otherwise clean except in main channels
can fish well in oct. if the weather is settled.
