fahan beach/Donegal 18-6-11

[b]People on me tod!!

[b]Duration five hours

[b]Tide drop and rise

[b]Weather good

[b]Bait mac;/ squid/ squid bombs

[b]Rigs two hook flapper/pully

[b]Results four tub's/ one thornie @9lb 10oz/ the mother load of doggies

[b]Report my first day back at the fishing for a few months now so i hit my local hunt fahan beach, in just five minutes of the second rod going out the first rod doubled over, fish on :D knew it was a thornie and when it was about ten feet or so from the shore the dam leader snapped  this has happened to me a few times with them tapered leaders, "i wont be using them again" so got the rod re rigged and back out. the other rod with the two hook flapper was fished in close and it was madness, two doggies at a time, the best one hit the scales at 4lb 2oz, then every so often i got a tubie. then i seen the distance rod take a slow and steady bend right over, then a slack liner. thornie on!! got him on to the beach and he hit the scales at 9lb 10oz :D :D now this made up for the lost one early on. after that it was just doggie madness, i could not handle two rods for they were coming in thick and fast, so just stuck to one rod. after so many hours of this i ran out of bait, so with a pair of sore arms i headed to the car and home, now cant wait to get out again

well done on the big ray mate. whenever I use the tapered leaders with braid I usually cut off the 1st length of 15 or 18lb line as I just don't trust it. To be honest though lately I just switched back to normal 50/60lb leaders that I always used with mono as it always seems to break at the knot if snagged anyway. I have always used 30lb braid for the past load of years and haven't lost any of it, just the leaders.

the meet is on another beach brian (leenan)
i do the same thing dave, i cut about two meters off the leaders before attaching it to the line, but i have gone off them leaders all together.
chuckaroo, scales are perfect, and it was definitely an lsd not a huss. the swilly at the minute seams to be overrun with the doggies, and there is a lot of big ones there.
liam, the beach was empty bar one other angler that landed about two o'clock, same story with him, doggies on every cast, wont be down there on Saturday, hitting leenan for the north v's south.
martin it is great to be back at it again, and there must be something in the water for them doggies are getting bigger :)
