Report
headed back to browns bay to fish a rock mark i had only fished once before with ocean roar from the site. last trip was pretty eventful with only a half dozen wrasse 3 doggies and 1 pollock between us, but i thought the spot had potential so wasnt ready to write it off just yet.
landed down at the mark around 4 and was dismayed to have the wind blowing near right in my face. it wasnt that strong but just strong enough to be a pain and make the light lure fishing i had planned impossible. so stuck with fishing the bottom using my carp rod and float fishing. by 8pm i had strived through wind and rain and had managed a total of about 5 wee wrasse and one wee pollock, but since the wind had now changed direction and the sun was out it was sheltered and calm and i fished on. the last few hours saw the fishing pick up a bit. up to now i had only been using rag worm but decided (in desperation) to start chucking out big chunks of twice refrozen mack to see if i could tempt a doggie or 2. and tempt them i did. between doggies on the bottom and more wee wrasse coming on the float i was kept busy. then just after 9 i got a cracking wee pollock at 2lb on mack, first time in a while ive had a sea fish take line on me :D. decided this was my queue to put away the float and get the lures out again and try and get my first lure caught pollock. sadly not this time but next time (maybe). did pick up a another 2 doggies on the bottom then decided to pack up at about 1030 as i was on me own, it was getting dark and i wasnt familiar with the area. left the carp rod with rag tipped mack last to be packed up. just i was about to lift it to reel it it bent right over so i struck into it and immediately about 10 yards of line was stripped from the reel. knees turned to jelly and the heart started racing at the thought of another nice pollock or possibly one of those rare browns bay huss i think i might have heard about sometime or possibly imagined it. had a good scrap getting it into the side and even snagged and lost the weight on the way (a heart stopping moment). got it up and it turned out to be a cheeky wee conger. it was only about 3lb but it put up a real spirited performance. Back it went and then so did i.

think im gonna try this spot again next week and fish the hide tide into darkness.....providing the wind is blowing from the right direction. if anyone fancies joining me let me know.

I feel as if our relationship is over :D I have too many hobbies to work around :(

Seems to be a productive night spot, would really require a fair mix of tackle though imo. Although,if there is a hint of sunshine, take a hat... I got roasted and had a liberal dose of sunstroke :P

It's too tough! Cycling is better for me and all the girls love a man in lycra (this has yet to be proven)

i know all the men love a woman in lycra so in this age of sexual equality the same rules should apply

Ocean Roar, we are on the same wave length, my 2 hobbies are fishing and cycling, and I can prove the lycra theory, as I'm just back from a hill climb and got wolf-whistled at on the way back through Ards, by a bunch of girlies on there way out for the night. I think they shouted, 'Nice arse' or it could have been just 'Arsehole'

Oh I, nice fishin, yngkmd!

I got stuck behind about 8 cyclists today in Ards... NDCC members... it's like they actually ENJOY getting in the way of the car.... 2 abreast, talking away... with a queue of traffic the length of the peninsula meandering behind them! Aghhhh! Sorry, a bit O.T.

if you want more proper cycle lanes does this means cyclists are going to start paying road tax to fund them?

didnt think so.
