Report:
Dusted off the rods and headed for the safety of Dun Laoighre with the keenest fisherman in the house. Hard to take him anywhere other than harbour walls so we planned a wrasse hunt. He'd been looking forward all week convinced that he'd catch a couple because he caught them here last year. He even wore his lucky cap
Set him up with a small bubble float and rag for bait and just dropped it into the water off the edge of the wall. The float dissapeared within 2 or 3 minutes and that was the way for the day. Plenty of bites and his first catch after came after 10 minutes. Unhooked the fish and looked up to discover an audience, and had to field a host of questions. Returned the fish to the water and after an anxious few minutes he recovered and swam off.
Second fish caught after an hour and went through the same routine as the first. Kept at the float fishing for another while until he decided he wanted to go through every spinner in the box.
Anyone thinking of introducing their young kids to the joys of fishing I'd recomend Dun Laoighre. Nice and safe and sheltered sitting on the steps close to the waters edge. He even got to cast on his own for the first time.
Obviously me not catching anything had nothing to do with lack of skill just that I was helping him
