Ballycastle/Red-bay Sunday 5th June

Duration:4pm to 7pm Ballycastle-Redbay 7:30 to 10:30
Tide:Ballycastle Running tide-Redbay About low water
Weather:Very heavy rain ballycastle and redbay
Bait:Mackeral, squid,and lug
Rigs:pulley
Results:All 3 of us blanked "bigtime"!
Report:Headed down the coast at minute, headed for ballycastle to chase the tide, no wind at all just heavy consistent rain, we fished of the rocks at the right hand side, had very little bites, there was a lot of hedges being washed down the river which was causing hovac running into our lines, after couple of hours after very little bites we headed to pier at Red bay, when I got the the pier I was astounded at the rubbish which was left on it, barbeques, bags empty beer bottles,etc.... alot of plastic material it was a terrible sight if im honest, worse iv ever seen it! anyways we set up the gear tried green and black beads for the fatties, size 3/0 tipped with squid and lug, got few bites but hooked into nothing, continued changing the bead colour and bait cocktails but yet again nothing, brendy just stuck to the mackerel but unsuccessful, connour lost the bap and started using we spinning rod putting it out 10-15 feet from pier, sniffing around to try and save the blank, bout nout happening! after about 3 hours of drinking tea and nothing happening the heavens opened up once again, which was the signal to call it a day, my flotation suit had given up also as my top under it was soaking, so I was wondering if any of you guys know that after so many years does yr suit start letting water in, iv had mine since I was 17 and this is the first time its let me down. Still the session was good laugh and plenty of banter, "think the boys need a moral lifter" lol

unlucky m8, sunday was a terrible day, at least u got out and braved the weather m8.

Dan keep at it, fair play fer gettin out into into that weather. Just one thing, if you are fishing for flatties, you need to down size your hooks. 3/0 is far to big for the majority of flatties in Redbay. I use 1 or 1/0 Aberdeens for around there, which more than often comes up with the goods, and quite often I've brought them in with the worm sucked in from the eye end of the hook and the barb protuding from the side of their wee mouths.

No probs thanks for the tip, i use a bigger hook to try keep the we greedy ones away but i will try the 1/0 during the week, iv my heart set on a nice size dab this year as i didnt get a good one last year .take it easy mate!

Unlucky mate, our coast is not great at the best of times but when the rivers are chucking out rainwater its hard to get anything to feed in my experience apart from the odd flounder.
