Cushendall Beech - 27-05-11

Wed Jun 01, 2011 11:40 pm

People: Me and my Da

Duration: 6 hrs

Tide: Over LW Slack

Weather: Sheltered but heavy rain/hail!

Bait: Rag, Squid, Sandeel, Mackerel

Rigs: Pulleys, 2 up 1 down

Results: 3 Plaice

Report: Didn't fancy the crowds of Dalriada/redbay to we headed for a bit of shelter to an old favorite spot. Couple of decent plaice on the first few casts (20-25cm ish) and then nothing over the slack water. Picked up again when the tide lifted and we started getting bites again. Plaice fell to rag/mack at distance on the pulleys and close in on the scratching rigs too. Good to see a nice year class looking healthy :)

Sorry about the lack of pics - forgot me camera

Also forgot to say the gannets were working hard all day. Got so close that one snagged my line and pulled it clean off the stand depositing it about 20 yards out. Kinda painful watching a Tip Tornado and Penn 525 slowly sink

Did manage to get it back though - Always fish two rods

was on that beach last night with weedave and his mate. seen the same birds diving in the water as well, also seen what we assumed were sea trout jumping out of the water.

anywho we fished it for a few hours, beach was right and busy. all 3 got 3 flatties each. i got 3 flounder, think weedaves mate got a plaice. very warm night, but the flies were torture

Yeah the wind kept the flies at bay for us, they are quite bad down there. Could have well been sea-trout, caught them off the beech before on plugs, well worth a chuck!

decent effort Slackliner. i fish that area a lot but have never actually gone off the beach so interesting to read how you(s) got on.. mind you, 3 plaice for 6 hours seems a bit slow.. :|
there seems to be a hell of a lot of plaice in redbay in that area at the moment.. here's hoping for a big one.
see those gannets all the time there now too. and the sea trout jumpin too. good signs i hope! :D
cheers
