Decited to fish Friday nite off the pier as it was only myself fishing and I wanted somewhere sheltered from the wind. I turned up to the harbour about 8 to find it was flat calm and completely sheltered. So I was excited about getting set up and having a few hours peaceful fishing.

I had both my rods set up and in the water by 8:10, within seconds both rods wer getting bites. Reeled my long cast rod in to find a doggie, and my shorter ranged rod was still going mad so I re baited and cast my long ranged rod out and reeled in the new Enticer. To find a scorpion fish and a codling on it. I re baited that rod and cast out to find my long ranged rod going nuts with another doggie.

This was the way it went all nite, soon as one rod hit the water I was reeling in the other with a fish on. I didn't get much off a chance to just sit down and relax, as I was just casting out and within seconds the rod was bouncing in the rod stand. I even pulled in a double doggie with my new Ian golds Enticer. The rod is a lot stronger than i thought itwould be.

At about 10pm I started to hear my car alarm beeping, as it beeps if sum one gets to close to it. At first I thought it was the wind, but after hearing the alarm doing it's warning beep for maybe the 7-8 time I took a walk round the pier and shone my head lamp down the end off the pier to my car, to see sum thing move in the shadows. So I was getting a bit nervous then thinking my car is going to get smashed in. So I went back to my gear round the back off the pier. A minute or two later the same thing happened again, so I decided to just pack up and go. When I got down to about 30 yards away from my car there was some scroat on the top off the pier all in black, who started asking me about the fishing. I couldn't believe it, this was prob the guy trying to get into my car and there he was hiding in the shadows talking to me!

The only damage he/they done was scratch the handle a bit! I don't think I will be back there again, it's the first time I've ever fished by myself and felt nervous. It wasnt a very nice feeling fishing round the back off the pier expecting them to come round the corner at any time and hassle me. Luckly they didn't.

Pity you couldnt relax and enjoy your fishing Mark  . I 've fished there loads of times with no hassle. I usually park in front of the sailing club as theres usually people out front smoking if theres a function on. It's perfectly natural to get the heebie jeebies when youre on your own at night, especially if theres a ninja in black watching you  Its a good daylight fishing venue so maybe you could arrive a little earlier/ leave before it gets dark :?: . Anyways well done on the fishing

It's never bothered me fishing on my own or camping out on my own fishing. But the other nite I was a bit nervous. Was just expecting a gang off lads to come round the corner and hassle me for my car keys and fishing gear.

Other than that the fishing was great and I got to test my new Ian golds Enticer again. Was really looking forward to fishing late as it was only dark for about half an hour before I had to pack up and leave. Was pulling in nice fish every cast and was really enjoying it. Hopefully next time Im out I will get to fish for as long as I want without being interrupted by some scum bags.

I was thinking of heading out on my own last night and changed my mind in the end mainly because i did not want to go alone. In this situation I would have been nervous as well. Pity you cant go relax and have a fish in peace without the like of that happening! Ive had a few incidents like that with my car (no alarm) but seeing people around it but ive luckily always been with someone! On a more positive note well done on the good catches great variety of species! Wicklow seems to be getting good reports latley let it continue :)

Thats an awful pity Mark, shame you had to pack up. Personaly I never had any similar problems on Wicklow harbour so hopfully its just an isolated incident. As for the advice about the knife forget that far too dangerous. you did the right thing heading off. Hope this is the last of this scary sort of thing you encounter and you can enjoy your fishing in peace.

I just left my knife at the top of my box close to hand. I deff wasn't going to walk down holding it. It would've just caused mayhem if the chap wanted to start anything.

I will be out again this weekend by myself so it ain't affected me, just drunk off that I couldn't fish for as long as I wanted cause sum scum bag can't get a job and wanted try make easy money stealing my car or the items out off it!

Well done on the fish sparkie but shame you had to cut the session short. Normally these incidents are far and few between so don't let it put you off heading out on ur own again.

Good fishing mate shame it was interrupted by some muppet. If I fish down there on my own I'll remember to keep the large filleting knife close

Park outside or near the sailing club. There are usually people there at the weekends. I have never had any trouble fishing there and have fished the pier since I was a boy.
I prefer the other Pier anyway, less walkers and few people fish it and no mackie bashers or people drinking etc.
There are houses beside this pier and its lit up and you can park you car there under a light also.
