Fri May 27, 2011 8:12 pm

People:me and robbie

Duration:1.30pm till 9.30pm (yes 7 hours  )(no 8   )

Tide:full at 4.30 and 9?just weird

Weather:two lite showers

Bait:crab rag mac

Rigs:pulleys and 3 hook cascade

Results:flounder 5,dab1,doggies 4 and pup smoothies 15

Report:myself and robbie both had a day off work and headed down south for a smoothy hunt,we picked a mark sheltered from the brisk wnw erly ,it was tshirts weather in our sheltered spot with jackets only going on for the showers, fishing was slow all day but to be honest we didnt really mind as it was so nice to be out 8) (we both got a bit burnt  ) most fish were out a good distance with a good 120 yard cast with mac producing a few dogs ,swimmer crabs were everywhere and flappers comming back with snipped snoods made me think a few spider crabs where also present :evil:robbie pulled in a hermit minus its shell  the little begger obviously wasnt letting go of his bait no matter what! we packed up at 6.30 left half our gear in the car and hiked and rockhopped a mile up the beach and had a go at a little bay for the last few hours this produced more pup,s with a belting 18 incher comming on my last cast ,it would seem to still be a bit early for the bigger ones but hey we tried our best and i also had plenty of practice at my pendulum cast

Good report ther roger, LOVELY AMOUNT OF SMOOTHIES
Out ourselves in ennerreilly last nigght plagued with doggies and two small hounds.

Quick question the hermit crab yous caught did yous use it for bait???
Fished with a guy from england on a charter boat in spain and he said all the english lads fish for smoothies only in the summer with hermit crab said its irresistable to them
Does anywhere in ireland sell hermit??

robbie used the hermit it got hammered by the other crabs  i,ve used frozen hermit and had loads of different species on it flounder ,coalies, codling, whiting ect ect the only fish i havnt had on it is smooth hound  if you know someone down your local harbour the welk boats and lobster men get loads of em ,normally big ones as the smaller (bait size ones )can get out of the holes in the pots
i,ve seen it in an angling shop southside i think it was (frozen)
you could catch your own with a drop net !
