Report:We wanted to fish from Bolus head but the wheather(6-7 bf and rain like never seen before)made it too dangerous to venture out there fully exposed to the winds from the southern directions. We decided(after a visit to Kevin Brain in Waterville) to leave bass for what they are( catches were down also)to choose the Valentia Lighthouse marks. Lucky choise.Nature threw everithing it had on us but we managed to catch a few very ,and attack by nice wrasse on frozen lug topped with locally found limpet.I never saw an ocean wave beaten by the rain before, because there were moments we were battered by the rain from behind and nearly blown of.We kept high on the rocks.Man a wrasse can fight in the swell.!Farther out we could cast our spinners very far on 17/100 spider wire and managed to have big fish on,but never landed a single one of what seems to be quiet big pollack and possible cod.The fish managed to dive into a big reef, the wheather went worse and the only thing to do was pack it up.
Next day we tried this spot again ,but it became too dangerous to get near the water because of the swell.
We decided for Kells. And again a lucky choise .Here we could fish from the rocks right above the stream ghalfway the bay.The wrasse were not present but the doggies were.On incoming tide we decided to fish from the local pier and fished there.Plenty of doggies, and we were glad to end a four day trip to beautiful Kerry here. The rest of the shoremarks around the Ring were pretty unfishable.Kells seems to me a good mark for pollack too, because you are in real kelp country here!
