Went to Bray Harbour for a few hours Sunday evening. Had some rag and lug leftover from Saturday but it wasnt in good condition. The evening was surprisingly sunny in Bray and I had only a jumper on for most of the time , got chilly later though. Things started off quiet enough, I had a pulley rig baited with crab, then lug and squid and then with just mackerel,,,,,,,but the crabs just picked them clean each time. In close , i tried for wrasse in among the rocks, with a small 2 hook flapper with rag tipped with squid. I should have just used the one hook as I lost a couple of rigs and all the fish were caught on the bottom hook . Got nothing at distance. Started getting bites after about an hour and first fish was a surprise eel  .

I managed to release him without too much fuss, last time i caught one he mangled my trace. This was followed by two other eels, last one was biggest but I didnt bother with the pic as I already had one. A blenny was next, the manky rag was going down a treat but I only had a few  .

The wrasse came next,a female corkwing, really soft bites, I had the rod in my hand all the time and i missed her a few times but she kept coming back.First wrasse of the season for me too  .

Image

Last fish was a coalie, also my first this year  .

Then the bit of newspaper I had my manky rag in lifted into the air and dissappeared over the railings,,,,not surprising really as there was a large photo of a Spitfire in it. The Spitfire flew for a few yards before making a perfect landing in the water  .Ah well ,it was time for me to go anyway and pick herself up from the Amusements in Bray. I was delighted with my little session , 3 new species for the year and I wasnt even going to go out  .The missus had a nice result too, bagging Winnie the Pooh

Well done on the new species.
I should get out myself and try for a few wrasse and mini species but it's hard to get motivated now that the bass ban is in force
