Lahinch 19th - 21st August

Fished Lahinch beach over 2 days last weekend.

Sport was slow, you had to put the hours in to get the fish. Managed to catch 4 bass between two of us, 3 falling to my rod. Sizes were approx 3lb, 3.5lb, 3.75lbs and 5.25lb. All released to fight another day. All fish were caught on the ebb, the flood produced no fish for us, despite most internet guides (CFB etc) telling us the flood was best.

We used a variety of baits, lug, rag, sandeel, peeler and razorfish. Sandeel accounted for 3 of the 4 fish, despite the fact that I was using lug for the majority of casts. I caught the largest fish on razor at about 1.30am at low tide.

An English chap fishing beside me caught a beautiful fish of over 9lbs On Saturday morning in bright sunshine, an absolute cracker (I was sick as a pig!) - it was also taken on sandeel. Also saw another angler spinning at the mouth of the Inagh estuary pull in 3 or 4 decent fish.

We had tried Fanore on Friday evening, but the surf made fishing difficult. It was very rough, with no clear tables of water between breakers, just whitewater everywhere. Also the beach was absolutely covered in weed. Several hours fishing produced nothing.

A pleasant weekend though, with some delicious pints of guiness in between sessions!
