As we hadnt been out in a couple of weeks we opted to punish ourselves with a long trek down the beach to start with

.Once we were in the starting position , we armed ourselves with our top of the range rods and reels and tipped these off with the finest bait you could dig,,,,,,,,,,,,er,, I mean money can buy

, and sent our baits off to the horizon in search of fish (while also hedging our bets with a 2 hook flapper each in close for huge Bass etc

) Then at last we could relax and sit down for a bit of banter. Fishface had a feeling that we were going to strike it lucky tonight, but with the tide dropping and the sea like a mill pond, I wasnt too confidant

. At least Fishface was busy for the next 3 hours,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,EATING

,,,,,,his jaws never stopped moving but at least while he was chewing he wasnt talking and I didnt have to listen to all those stories again

As pleasant as the evening was, we werent getting any fish but then as I reeled in I saw a familiar little disc shaped flattie bobbing along the beach

,,,,,,,,,but it turned out to be a flat shell with a hole in it which caught the hook. That damn shell brought me through the whole range of human emotions, anticipation, expectation, relief, joy, disappointment, embarassment, sadness,,,,,,,,,,,,all in 20 seconds

. But then I had a decent bite,,,,,,,,,,,from a micro codling

,but at least it was a fish and it saved the blank. This seemed to be at the bottom of the tide. This was followed up by a series of pin whiting and a starfish before Fishface landed a doggie on mack. I lashed out a chunk of mackeral and got a doggie of my own, my first of 2011. Thats about it really, no exciting stuff, just doggies and pins ,but it could have been a lot worse, and was looking like it for the first 3 hours. I must bring more food next time , to keep Fishface quiet. He spent the last hour or so showing me how much brighter his lamp is than mine. Then we packed up and trekked back down the beach,,,,, there were some guys angling but we were too knackered and out of breath to waste oxygen talking so we just kept going saying our mantra "Theres no place like home, theres no place like home!", and before you knew it we were back at the cars,,tired and sweating profusely,,,,,,,,,but alive!!!!!
P.S. iN CASE ANYBODY DOESNT KNOW IT, HE HAS THE PETZL ULTRA
