Me myself and i
7:30-12:30
Tide was out going then incoming.
Baits: Rag,squid mackerel.
Countless amounts off dogs, 2 small codling and one off about 5 pound. Smoothhound pups and flounder. And a few pin whiting.
Decided to give this beach ago as I normally go down a little further to the smaller beach. Was a good choice. There was a load off boys just starting a comp so I had to walk a fey hundred yards up the beach. Started fishing about 7:30 with just a fey small bites and no fish for the 1st hour. Then the sun dropped and I was into a fish every cast on both my rods. My first fish was a double off small cod about 25cm. Then I had a flounder about 30 cm. I was catching them on rag tipped with squid. Then I pulled in a smoothhound pup about 45cm on the same bait. Then on my next cast I had another pup about 35cm. Didnt mind them being small as it was another species for the year and my first hounds in ireland.
Decided to just cast out mackerel on the other rod and see what I could catch. After about 10 mins I had an all mighty knock on the rod but hooked into nothing. Decided to bait up again with mackerel and see if whatever took my bait was still around. After a few minutes my rod was bent over going mad. And on its way off the stand. So had to jump up and catch it b4 it went into the sea. I dont know what I hooked into as after 10 minutes fighting whatever was on my line and after it stripping me to about 60 yards left off line on the real, my line snapped and I nearly give myself a concussion with the rod springing back into my face. I wasn't the happiest ive ever been I can tell you that. Decided to change real and try again with mackerel but nothing seemed to be taking it. At about 10 my rod fishing the rag went mad with a doggy bite. So I knew I was atleast going to land sumthing heavier than a pound. So with the mackerel catching nothing I decided to just use rag. And every cast from then on I had doggy's. With one decent cod to. It was a really good nites fishing. The best ive had this year. Hopefully this weekend when i'm out its as good.

It didnt snap the snood it snapped my 15lb main line. Whatever it was it just went mad. Took line stopped I gained back the line then it just took off again. Was just digging in then making a mad dash for it. Was a good old arm hurting fight. Was hoping it was a big ray and I was gonna be bragging about it for years. Then when it snapped my HST Nearly went in with it. Cant wait to get back out to be honest. Its been a long time since my arms have hurt after a fishing trip.

I'd say tope or huss, dont hear of smuts taking mackerel too often, nice fishing though a 5lb cod is never a bad way to forget about the one that got away.

Yeah the cod was a real nice bonus. I dont think your man fishing next to me was to impressed when I put it back. But I wernt gonna carry it back to my car, I had to much stuff with me and it was a good few hundred yards to walk.
I will just have to try again at the weekend. Hopefully I can pick up sum fresh crab and mackerel b4 saturday evening.
Thanks for all the replies, will sort pics soon as my internet is back up and running.
