A Rainy Night in Kerry

Fri Apr 01, 2011 11:20 pm

Tide- over low water.
Rigs- 3hook flapper.
Weather- constant rain.
Bait- lug and peeler.
People- myself and the father.

Mid week cabin fever resulted in a spontaneous fishing trip for myself and the father. The tides were right for a visit to a mark that has been very productive for us in the past but offers only a short window of oppertunity to fish because of its location out on a sandbank. First we dug some lug from a nearby bed 100 in half an hour with one digging and one picking.... a welcome change from the cold frosty nights.
The driving rain meant that the exact location of the mark was hard to find as the area changes with the strong tides of the previous week scouring the area. Luckily the Bass found the rain no trouble and the Father was first in with a 37cm Bass, it was released in hope of another one big enough for the pan. I was in soon after a bass of 38 attacked my lug bait on the retrieve. Then a small flounder for dad and three quickfire bass on peeler for me plus two flats and a coalie of 22cm made for a good hours fishing. The incoming tide was a bit of a nuisance on account of the sandbanks new appearance meant we started the walk back but not before the father added another bass big enough for the pan. The 600m walk was easier than expected meaning we could of stayed for another bit.

Buoyed by the action and ignoring the rain we headed to another mark. After an hour we had added 5more bass only one big enough to keep and all on lug baits despite there being fresh plump crab on two out of the three hooks. By now the rain had intensified and there was many miles to go before bed so we called it a night and after 2hours 15mins fishing the count stood at 4bass 1 flounder for the father and 7bass 2flounder and a coalie for me. As good fun getting soaked as I'm ever likely to encounter....wet t-shirt competitions aside

Cheers lads, Only took the one pic as it seemed foolish to risk the health of the camera. I'm having trouble getting the pics up from a few other sessions. They need to resized but I have to admit to not being able to follow how its done.

I hear the Mothers day celebrations are being put on Hiatus until the SPA comp finishes at 6tomorrow. Wil the prodigal son John Lynch be wetting a line??
