Me & The aul lad
Duration: 2 - 2 hour trips on 10th & 11th August
Fished the 2 hours up to high tide
Conditions: Day 1: Stormy - Day 2: Mild and sunny
Bait: Freshly caught mackerel and lug cocktails & feathers & lures
Rigs: 1 hooks paternosters
Up to fanad to visit the relatives again and to spend a week fly fishing on the lakes. The aul lad was up as well so I brought the multiplier etc.. up as well. Managed two short trips down the rocks at the lighthouse. I was mostly fishing on the bottom and dad was spinning with feathers.
Day 1: Me: 1 mackeral. 2 doggies and a 1lb dab. Dad: 2 pollock and a mackeral
Day 2: Me: 1 tb ray, 1 mackeral, 2 doggies
Dad: 15 mackeral, 2 pollock, 1 doggie & 1 strap conger
Didnt do too bad for the amount of time spent and the fishing seems to have picked up compared to the last two years. One gripe though is the state the rocks are being left in. I have fished there for the past 15 years and Dad for the past 40, but the place was in a state when we got there with cans bits of gear and bags everywhere. We spent a while cleaning the place. Could the hoards of mackeral bashers please look after the place...especially the crowd from Derry who I have met there a few times (u know who u are)

And the pier at Ards as well...
...especially the crowd from Derry who I have met there a few times (u know who u are)
but this sort of request is kinds pointless. The type of angler to frequent these forums are the sort who tidy up after themselves and others, not the type to litter venues.
It's very annoying. Donegal is one of the most scenic and beautiful of the counties, and down where the land meets the sea is often the best of it, and yet people litter it. Gives all us anglers a bad name.

yeah true lads hopefully we're a more enlightened bunch on this sight....it just really p****s me off seein rubbish being left in any spot...and sadly it seems to always coincide mith mackeral bashing season.
Ive nothing against going after mackeral with feathers (prefer using a toby with barbless hooks...much more fun), my da was fishing most of the time with feathers and yet managed to clean up after himself...sadly he seems to be in the minority.

He's not in the minority - the minority are those who leave the place in a tip.
And it's not just Derry people either...

true its definitely not just Derry people....it's a country wide epidemic sadly...in the case of fanad it has been my experience in recent years that I have met lads from Derry while fishing in the rocks who have left the place in a state.
Closer to home for me, you just have to look at the state Balscaddan in Howth is left in during the summer

I agree, I think that its a shame that the coast line has to be a dump, the rocks around teelin are a disgrace. When I started fishing there in april it was so clean and tidy, but now over the summer months people just leave the rubbish behind from the days fishing, beer cans, plastic bags, bottles, glass bottles smashed everywhere, and nappies!!!! For god shake dispose of the dam nappies, and the rest of the crap you leave behind! If you are a proper angler you should respect the coast line and environment and take your rubbish with you!!

i agree with mark about teelin. it seems that the summer attracts more danglers than anglers to our shorelines and i guess they just dont know any better unfortunatley   . even at marks where bins are redily available ive seen litter left lying around even a few feet away from them and had to put it in the bin myself.eg benone, portrush harbour.

Same every year at Teelin and Fanad, some of the stuff would nearly make you sick. Shows a complete lack of respect for the area their fishing.
