north connemara co galway 20th march 2011

Duration:14:30 to 19:00

Tide:high 17:32 5.6m

Weather:some showers and light wind

Bait:sandeel,lug,white rag,mackerel,squid,razor

Rigs:3 hook flapper

Results:1 flounder,1 dogfish,2 bull huss




Report:I headed out in the morning to try get some razor fish and got over 250 of them :D and white rag,lug and sandeel as well so I decided to head for a session with the fresh bait,I headed to a beach to try for some flats
I managed to land a flounder shortly after setting up

and then the bites went quite so i decided to head for a deep water mark
set up and first fish landed was a dog followed by 2 huss

when I was getting bait in the morning I came across this lad

I think he was a flounder

gerry whats in the 3rd picture.your flat could be the smallest ever seen witht he last post i had.add it to it.we done all the same

thanks mick,there are a few huss knocking around but i didn't see any big ones yet

don't wanna be the one to say this, but that's a doggie in the pic :shock: :shock:
the second dorsal begins in line with the end of the anal fin, if it was a huss it would overlap, the second dorsal fin would start before where the anal fin ends :wink:

ah well, if someone is going to call a doggie a huss, ya have to know the alternative way to identify them if you can't see their snout!!
I wont mention caudal fins, that may just confuse people!!!

nice fishing ger :) . our huss mark dose'nt usually switch on until june over this side of the coast. hopefully we'll do better this year for them than last year. the huss seemed to be about in far less numbers. you did well for the razor on the low tides thow. we could only access our razor beds for 50mins before the tide chased us back to the shore. still got a good 150 over the 2 days :D . free bait is always the best bait in my book :lol:
