the trip didnt get off to the best start. Got rained on riding the bike on the way down, stood on my favourite float setting up and snapped it in 2, first cast i forgot to take off the bail arm and nearly smacked myself in the face and then finally when i got fishing it started raining again. sat for the first hour in a huff in the rain irked at the poor start to the session. i wasnt expecting any fish till it was darker but since i had a few things go wrong i wasnt in the mood for sitting in the rain, a pod of dolphins or porpoises showed up and i wached them slowly making their way up the lough which was pretty cool and lifted my mood. the first fish showed its face about 630, i think they sensed my mood and just wanted me to know they were there but not ready to feed yet as i didnt get another bite till about 715, from there it was a fairly steady stream of coalies in the 20-30cm range for the next hour and a half. once the tide turned and started ripping out the fish went with it and had no more bites in the last 45 minutes but since it was such a lovely evening i hung out anyways. in the end i had 19 coalies. the running ledger i had hard on the bottom went unsniffed for the whole evening.
the moon was very very bright, i was actually able to floatfish without using a headtorch if you can believe it.
also got a new crab\shrimp pot. pulled it in a few times and got a fair few rockling in it, a couple of three beaded rockling, and some nice fat rockling which i couldn't determine the exact species, i imagine shore rockling but if anyone can tell from the blurry pics let me know. only got 1 crab but did also get a half dozen shrimp, tried a few for bait on the bottom but they kept coming back in minus their heads so the crabs must have had a go at them.
sorry for the blurry pics but my camera has problems focusing up close after dark
