People: Me, and 2 others (Craig and Dee?)

Duration: 6.15pm - 11.15pm

Tide: Push, High, Drop

Weather: Flat Calm, Lovely, Cold

Bait: Mackeral

Rigs: DDP, Loop, Flapper

Results:

1 LSSS, 1 Shore Rockling, 1 Codling, 3 Pollack, and a DEAD DOGFISH :?

Report:

So it was off to Donaghadee with the New Zziplex in tow, Had the evening planned out to cover all the bases, SK Bass & 6500 Mag down the side for the critters, the Affinity M & Sportsmag for the middle, and the M4Evo & 515 over the back wall for the Dogs. So got down to the fishing, to be joined by 2 others about 20 minutes in.

Fishing was slow, but the craic was good, managed a codling on the Sonik which was nice to see as you don't get as many around Donaghadee as you used to. Reeled in the Zziplex combo for the first time to find myself bent into something heavy, skull dragged it in, to find my griplead had fouled someones old rig, complete with a half decomposed dogfish! First time I've ever seen anything like this happen on Donaghadee, was a bit sad to see this, not the way to christen my new baby! :|

Spent the night talking fishing while catching a few species for a decent tally, the other two lads were mighty craic and the usual fishing yarns were exchanged.

I'll keep firing the big baits out on the M4 until I get my first decent fish on it, after all, that's what it's meant for.

Great night.

Nice one Drew. I have a very similar story. Was fishing a North Wexford beach last year and reeled in a trace with half an eaten dogfish on it. Looked like the tiddlers and crabs where feasting on him. The funny thing is the trace was my buddys (who was fishing beside me that night) from a previous trip a week or two before. Imagine the head melt when I thought I had crossed him, he comes over and sees his old trace but his line and rod were fine. A lot of head scratching before we realized the situation... I love funny fishing stories like this. Like the time when another buddy landed a doggie with a spider crab on top of it, attacking it!

once whe i was a wee nipper about 7 or 8 i was chucking a crab line off the pontoon in portrush harbour at night while me dad fished for conger.
brought it in about a half hour later and there was a conger on the end a good 6 or 7 pounds but by the look of it, it had been dead a good 2 weeks.

and on top of that it was perfectly hooked in the mouth.

me da never caught a conger that night but i did (sort of) :D
