Killoughter 08/03/11

Wed Mar 09, 2011 1:07 pm

People:Myself & GarF

Duration:3hrs

Tide:rising

Weather:windy wsw

Bait:crab, sandeel & mac

Rigs:3 hook flappers and 3 hook clipped

Results:Whiting and Doggies

Decided to hit Killoughter to try and get our first doggies of the year, Got directions off of markyb to a different part of the beach, so didn't have to drive through 20 lakes to get there.
First cast was 2 sandeel and one crab bait on a clipped rig at about 100 yards, 2 mins later rod gets pulled off the tripod...wasn't expecting that  but on the way to grab my rod tripped and whacked my knee off a rock so didn't really care about the rod for a few minutes   Brought it in and nothing on it crab was a bit mangled though...changed the crab and sent it out again as it was only out a few minutes and same thing happened again... don't know what it was but all I can think is smoothie
Myself and Gar picked up a whiting and a few doggies then, mostly getting double and trebles per cast with a few decent enough size whiting thrown in amongst the Pins...not as hectic a session as the lads had with the doggies the other day with only 4 caught but nice to catch them again & not be frozen to the bone while fishing

Good stuff Al. The majority of the big pack must have moved on. God we had some amount last weekend... Glad yis got some decent Whiting. All we got were pins. Do ya (or anyone) ever lash them on a rig as bait and send them out? Feck all blood in them but I say theyd be good retrieved slowly maybe? Sorry for goin off topic...

Good report Al , seems the really really cold spell has gone alright, try to get a flotation suit , one of my best investments ever. snow sleet rain, doesnt bother you when your fishing.
All i have ever caught using small whiting for bait is doggies , and when you reel them in there not even on the hook , they just seeem to lock on to them

I use the thermals instead of the floatation suit and they do me fine, It's my hands that get cold while the rest of me sweats, also, I think they ruin my figure and I couldn't deprive my fellow fishermen of that.

even going down in the jeep can be dodgey to say the least
i was down there twice in the last couple of months, and on both occasions i taught i was nuts :| i know of a few vehicles that have got damaged over the years, cracked sumps, ripped off exhausts, broken suspension units, and stranded because of water ingress
you have been warned

ye mad thing , i dont think any of us can keep our figures eating red meat cause there aint no edible fish around.
get an oul fire log in the garage and that will light for two hours, goes to nothing when its burned , so its not messy
