Bait:sandeels, rag and mackeral

Rigs:mixed

contacted weedave here from the forum and we decided to met up on ballycastle beach for a short session. i was going to be there earlier but the missus was going to the waterfront to see the saturdays in concert and missed the bloody train up so i had to drive up to belfast and leave her up

evetually got down to the beach for about 8pm. i knew high tide was about 6pm so i was catching the end of the dropping tide. when i go there i thought dave was there already as i seen a man on the beach standing on his own. i phoned dave and he said it was wasnt him, then i noticed this guy hadent eve a rod! lol he started to freak me out! lol

5 mins later i though a cop car landed and about 8 fellas in flourecent gear and hea dlamps jumped out and pilled onto the beach! i thought it was some sort of drugs raid, and me in the middle of it! :D then they wandered over and started to cover something up on the beach and shouted that hes over here! yup, i thought it was a body! sweet jesus!

well it wasnt, and it was actually the coast guards out training on the beach etc. still very funny and had me laughing to myself. dave then landed and thought i had been swept off and lost at sea!

thas all the excitement we had as the fishing wasnt great. the leads and grips were being pulled all over the place and we were landing masses of weed onto the beach.

still a good evenings craic and good to met a member from the forum.

good to get out anyway.
have you fished this beach much before polmac? where abouts on the beach did you have a go at?
i was thinking of giving it a go sometime soon but i have never heard of anything decent being caught off it.. always blanks or just a few very small flatties :?
has anyone else here on the SAI forum fished ballycastle beach much..? with success?
thanks

my own personal opinion would be to fish off pans rock at the end of the beach. . . (i love telling people this) i got a 7lb pollock off the rock on a wee 8ft spinning rod. st yopur depth to about 8 - 10 feet.. . there is a wee lump of rock just infront of pans rock, cast close to it using a float and let it drift by the rock. . .my best ever fish from the sea

ive fished the beach 2 times now, with last night being my first blank on it. i usually go to the pans rock as carp angler says and flost off it using my spinning rod. great craic on it but def wait for better weather as the waves can be pretty hairy if they start bounching over the rocks at the end there.
good for pollock and coalies

i arrived on the beach thinking polmac had been swept away already!!!! too many yellow jackets and flashing lights scared off all the fish!!!

@drew -  seems like the older we get the cooler we are, didnt you know fishin is what the kule kids do

@chuckaroo - i'v fished it a few times last year and had a few craking sessions on it - just so happened both of us where itching to get out so we met up last night for the craic.
tide was dropping and the swell was to big, too much weed and so on.
we fished it nearer the pans rock end but as i was said to polmac last night all my best fishing has been the middle of the beach - good turbot, flouder and some dabs to be had along with sea trout and if your really lucky the odd bass turns up too. i also was there one night a guy wrangled in a spurdog!! you can get the odd conger near pans rock, coalies and polluck are there too, some nice ones had at pans rock, plus mackeral there....all of course in season

@polmac - good to meet you man, glad we went out dipsite the state of that water.

it was good craic now last night. tho as you say toooooooo many head lights shining onto the water all night did us no favours.

i'll excuse the guys tho as they do a damned good job and i suppose what are thy to do if they are training on the beach at night.

still next time we will get a bucket of fish! 8)
