Report
after reading the recent posts about salting lug i figured id give it a go just to see. so headed down to the carrick to dig the spot just past the promenade under the train tracks. its only my 3rd time ever trying to dig bait so an hour and a half of hard digging later i had a grand result of 6 lug!!. i think they were deeper that i was willing\able to dig but salted them anyway so will see how they turn out.
hadnt planned on going fishing but the mrs asks what do you fancy doing tonight and half joking i said lets go tiddler bashing at bangor pier, knowing how she HATES the cold i expected her to say no but to my surprise she said yes. so off we went. landed down and the wind was blowing right in our face, it wasnt exactly gale force but was stil quite windy so wasnt ideal for the light float setups we had but since we were only droping it straight down from the platform it wasnt too bad. as expected there were bites from the off and we were pulling out an endless string of pollock and pouting in the 10-20cm range (i did say tiddler bashing after all) and the very very occasional coalie and pouting in the 20-30cm range. couldnt say how many we caught probably over 50 between us, and even if they were very very small, at this time of year catching small fish is better than catching no fish.
Also, last week was my Bday and i got a shakespeare salt bait bucket with pocket for an aerator, a ron thompson aerator to put in it and a ron thompson cast net. after becoming hooked on my new found love of freelining i want to try it in the summer with live sandeel, i am actualy quite excited about it but will see how it goes. anyways, i watched a few intructional videos on youtue and i brought the cast net with me as i really wanted to try it out and know ill need practice. gave it about a dozen or so chucks and between the wind causng it to collapse, possibly the height of the platform having an effect and the fact it was my first time it was a pretty disaterous go, only once did i get the net to actually open out. but its a learning process so next time i think i will be off to my da's back garden to practice there instead.
