People:Roger, Gordy and myself

Duration:5pm until 12am

Tide:rising

Weather:foggy, raining but mild.

Bait:Crab, razor and lug

Rigs:Pulley's and clipped down and some stupid thing Gordy thinks is the dogs

Results:Codling,coalie and a doggie.

Report:
Despite the political unrest and warnings from the Department of Foreign Affairs a plan was hatched to make one last run down south to Cork for a cod session. After a few hours kip and a vote I arrived at Gordy’s to see two happy faces as we loaded up the van with all the excitement of Christmas morning. Usual banter on the way down and after a stop off for chips we decided on €2 a man for the biggest fish.

We arrived at one of the marks we were given (thank you) and set up in fog on the last hour of the drop. Had a nice fish on my first cast which was great fun playing it out standing in the surf. Roger followed then with a coalie and then we had a couple of hours with one the odd fish between us. As the fog lifted the heavens opened and we were lashed on. After a while I suggested to Gordy we have a coffee and he informed me the flask was still in the van. I was elected to walk back to get it but at this stage I needed a change of coat! This was a welcome break and we dug out our assortment of chocy bars and enjoyed a brew.

Then into darkness the fishing improved with codling being caught on crab baits. Weed arrived and for about 30 minutes it was impossible to hold bottom or even keep traces clear. It even pulled over Gordy’s new tripod, which is like scaffolding on a building site! However as soon as it had arrived it cleared off and the fishing just took off with us getting a fish a cast. At this stage most fish were taking lug baits, and Roger even managed a nice doggie.

As the clock struck midnight we started to pack up and headed back to the van to peel off our drenched clothes. As the lads tucked into my kids sweets I drove off. It was a long drive home as I was shattered and needed shouts from Rodger to keep my eyes open! Made it home safe and sound though……just. And never got my winnings for the biggest fish of the day

Well done lads, looks like you got some nice codling. What weight was the wining fish?
Glad to hear that mark worked out for you.
Sorry I didn't make it over there but Friday is a tricky night for me to get out - the rain didn't help either!

I didn't think bass would be there, you would have had a better chance of a bass on the other beaches I suggested although where you fished was definitely the better option for cod.
