Report:

First trip as a full on driver, and decided to hit a mark I hadn't fished for a few years. From memory Portavogie harbour had been snaggy, but we'd managed a few Pollack and Codling out of it before, so figured it was worth a chuck. Not the best time of year to be trying out a "new" mark, but sure, you have to give these things a go.
So the McMinn battlebus pulled into Portavogie for around 7.10pm, Dan and I decided to scout the area for likely looking spots. A couple of nice wee breakwaters on one side and the main harbour wall on the other.
We weren't sure as to access rights on the smaller breakwaters due to them being gated, so decided on this occasion to give the main breakwater a chuck.
Sheppy and his mate arrived shortly afterwards, met us in the carpark and we travelled in convoy down to the parking behind the main fish market.
Got the gear set up, generally rough ground rigs, with worm baits. First off the mark was Sheps mate, with a Coalie from across the harbour mouth, looked around 20-25cm and was released. Dan after wading through a miriad of crabs finally connected with a similar coalfish from just under the rod tip. Sheps mate was again into the action and managed a little Sea Scorpion, at this point, after pretty much failing at everything tonight I managed to launch one over the back wall. To be rewarded with a big shore crab!
So after a while, (and god knows how many more crabs!), we decided to call it a day, on his last cast, Sheps mate jammy balls managed yet another species with a medium sized Shore Rockling.
A mark which shows potential, though quite rough and ready. Can't wait for the next trip... maybe tomorrow? 8)
