Co Antrim Harbour, 16/02/11

Thu Feb 17, 2011 12:43 am

People: Bingham, Michael, Myself

Duration: 5pm - 9pm

Tide: Pushing

Weather: Cold, Approx 10knt wind, around 20% cloud cover with full moon.

Bait: Rag, Lug, White Rag, Razor, Squid, Mackeral, Sandeel, Peeler

Rigs: Loops, Flappers, DD Pulleys

Results: Coalies, Codling, Whiting, Plaice, Dab, Dog

Report:

Well since we knew the Antrim coast was fishing we headed back up that direction. Fishing started off in daylight, with not much happening before the light started to go. Bingham was first off the mark with a nice Coalfish at distance, it took a while but shortly afterwards I managed a Coalfish/Dab double (I swear the Dabs are following me! ). After that the Coalies and Codling switched on, with plenty of small Codling in and around the 20cm mark keeping the rods nodding, along with a few coalies that would have been touching the 30's.
In the middle of all the action Bingham managed his first Plaice for the year, so he has yet another species up on me, gutted! But I wasn't that detered as I had happily hauling in a load of Codling, Dab and Coalies mostly in doubles.
Bingham unclipped his loop rig and put one of his DD Pulley rigs on, hammering it to distance, and this is what picked up the only dog of the night.
Found it hard to tear myself away from the pier, but we decided it was time to head back down the road at 9pm, so a few fish for 6 species, great to get out again, and hopefully won't be too long til the next one.

Also wondering about these dd puley rigs. Are they just a dropper rig, when casting it resembles a pulley rig and when retrieving the snood swivel is sitting right at the bottom above the wait. Not sure if this is right idea but i can't see how you could use a dropper and the pulley to still be affective. Cheers.
