Greystones rocks 13-2-11, then Bray Harbour

Tue Feb 15, 2011 8:37 am

GPeople:me

Duration:Greystones rocks, 5pm-6pm,then Bray Harbour,6-30pm-9pm

Tide:high 5-30pm

Weather:Nice, then Torrential rain then a cold clearance

Bait:lug, squid

Rigs:flappers, single hook rig

Results:shore rockling, 2 x 5 beard rocklings.

Report:
After the Bray Harbour SAI mini meet on Saturday night, I had some bait left over so I took the unselfish decision to bring herself to Bray on a pre Valentines excursion. Having successfully dropped her off at the slots , I headed on out of Bray and over the hill to Greystones. Like a moth to a flame, i'm drawn to this particular rocky outcrop, probably because of its handiness and peacefulness. I got set up and cast out 2 rods, I in close and one at distance. I had suffered the dreaded blank here a few weeks ago and I was relieved to see bites on the distance rod straight away. Then i had a nibble on the small rod which turned out to be a shanny,i think, which dropped off on the way up  .I reeled in the other rod to find a nicely marked shore rockling, blank saved and happy days. Shortly after recasting both rods, I had a 5 beard rockling on the close rod at my feet, this was looking like a decent night ahead  . Then the missus rang and put the mockers on me  ,"Whats the weather like there?",,,and I was about to say "Grand!",when I noticed the skies darkening over and knew that all was about to go horribly wrong  .I packed up as quick as I could but everything was saturated in 5 mins and I was relieved to get to the comfort of the car.
It was all going so well till she rang
I headed back to Bray and as I crested the hill at Windgates I saw that a big clearance was on the way so I headed for the comfort of Bray Harbour. On arrival I met another Sai member ,Paul Skully, who had likewise brought his beloved on a romantic moonlit excursion by the sea, and while she listened to the radio in his car we fished away for a few hours. Paul had 5 beard rockling ,whiting, and a welcome doggie on mackeral strip while I could only manage a solitary 5 beard in the 2 hours.Still ,after the initial lashing rain, I was happy enough to be able to fish on for a few hours, and it was nice to meet Paul. Even better was to come when I picked up the missus, who told me she had won €50,,,,but as I got a €20 voucher for c+j Angling on Valentines day , i'm guessing she won more

ps,,,this is my third attempt at a report,,,,,i've suffered the frustration again of closing the wrong box and everything dissappearing,,,,,,,,,its horrible so be careful and save as you go along,,,those of you to whom this has happened will know what I mean

pps,i'm putting a video on this,,i know its a crap video, not very interesting with a weak storyline but just as a fish is a fish, a video is a video, so there

Well done on getting out again so soon after Saturday nite. My gear is still wet, hopefully it's dried by Saturday!

It's nice to know you got some fish out off bray again. I think I be there on sat nite if its anyway windy! That rockling looks real impressive, it beats looking at the 5 bearded ones we been getting!

I had to bring my suit into the drying room in work it was soaked  The rockling was nicely marked but i was more impressed with the other one, which was much darker than the Bray ones, and really thick

I got a load of shore rockling in Bray a few weeks ago. The float idea might be worth a go as it can be a tackle graveyard

Oh did I not mention that I had peeler crab and mackeral as well  ,well I did in the first 2 reports that I lost, but by the 3rd one I had lost the will to live. Got nothing on them , by the way, and my mack was left in a rockpool and forgotten about when it lashed down
