Moville Pier, Co. Donegal 9th Aug.

Just myself and 2 friends decided in work today to head out fishing straight after we finished at 7. Got to the pier at about half past 7 or so, a few lads already there. We fished through to 10 just messing about, plenty of BIG BIG mackeral up until high tide at 9ish then everything went dead.

All mackeral caught on either floated mackeral strips or floated whole sandeels - sandeels accounted for the most fish and also the biggest. Pretty simple, fun fishing. Just kept 4 for the table 8) Delicious!

Apparently there are thornies and conger being taken there also. Gonna give it another go on Wed evening.

Went down again on Tues and wed evening. Same deal on Tuesday, floating sandeel and mackeral strips for mackeral. Other fellas there also landed garfish and one sea trout was caught on a freelined mackeral strip.

On Wednesday we used mackeral heads and guts looking for some conger with no joy. We only sat for an hour or so coz the drizzle was driving down and had us soaked through to the skin. No pleasure in that. Still plenty of mackeral and garfish around though.

Might give Culdaff a go next weekend.
