Bray Harbour 05/02/11

Sun Feb 06, 2011 1:20 pm

People:Me, Myself and I

Duration:7:30-11pm

Tide:On its way in, Low was at 6:45pm

Weather:Very Calm but Raining Heavy

Bait:Lug, Mack

Rigs:2 Hook Flappers

Results:2 x Doggies, 11 Whiting, 9 Rockling

Got the fishing bug real early yesterday morning after reading the forums, so headed off into town to get sum stuff i needed to make traces. Bought some bait and was all ready to go yesterday afternoon, when the GF decided she would like to spend the day with me in town doing nothing but looking in shops!

So i missed the chance to go fishing for the 1st time in 8 years, then at about 6 the GF decided she wanted to go see the inlaw's so i said i was going to brave the lashing rain and have a fish!

Got to bray harbour at about 7:30 and was eager to set up, had both rods out fishing after a shakey start with backing the car up the pier, (never been on it b4). Was sat there watching my rods for the 1st hour gettin real small bites and i was hitting none of them!
Then out off no where my rod went over like it was a tree hitting the line, and i nearly had a heart attack had to jump off my seat to stop the rod and rest going over. Decided to reel in and my bait was half gone but i had a half eating pin whiting on one off the hooks.
From about half 8 the bites just kept coming thick and fast, i was just baiting rigs, casting, retrieving un hooking fish then doing it all again. The 1st fish i landed was a nice doggie and very small pin whiting, the contents off the doggies stomach had bigger fish than the whiting taking my lug on the other hook!
Then after that it was just doubles off whiting and rockling! Which i didnt mind as ive never had a rockling b4 so it was a new species to me!
Will post some pics up later when i dont have a GF screaming at me for using my Computer

I had a real good session, was going to stay till high tide, but I was getting a bit restless having no1 to chat to.

Was real lucky with the weather to, as there wasn't even a breeze! And by about half 8-9 the rain had eased off to a slight drizzle.

Will def be going back there this week or the weekend, I really have the bug now!

I love the doggies, I don't mind catching them at all! As you said, they put a bend in the rod and they are a lot better than 3 inch whitings! but then again a 3 inch whiting is still better than a blank!

Hopefully this weekend it be the same again, a few doggies makes u feel like u at least caught sum thing

I had another doggie after you left then a few more doubles off whiting and rockling, then I got restless with no one to talk to and no radio. I left about half 11 after the time I had packed up and cleaned up my gear!
