Report:I wasnt going to put up a report,,,, lets face it, its not going to have a great ending with no fish being caught :? ,,but if it causes one angler to think again before making that decision on whether or not to head out it will be a goood thing. I had about 30 lug left over from Saturday nights session so I was itching to get out again. Unfortunately I checked the tides weather conditions etc and picked the rocks at Greystones. For some reason I thought that I would have a chance of a daylight fish in January  . I had lovingly looked after the leftover worms from Saturday night, checking in on them regularly and changing their paper. Some were selected for intensive care and seperated from the healthy ones and put in their own tray, lined with paper and these had recovered well and by today were in as good condition as the rest  . I packed the car and headed out into the rain which yesterday Met Eireann had said would only affect the Northern half of the country  .I hoped that Greystones would somehow be dry and when I arrived it wasnt too bad. I skipped down to my usual haunt and set up 2 rods, but after 3/4 of an hour with no bites I was starting to remember the reasons that no one fishes in daylight in January  Suddenly it wasnt such a good idea to be out here on a rock by the sea. All the baits were coming back exactly the way they went out  An hour went by, then two hours, and a feeling of calmness swept over me as I accepted my fate,,,,,,,I wasnt going to catch a fish today  . There was a little bit of me that hoped that a pin whiting would save the blank but at 4-15pm I started to put the first rod away, followed soon after by the other and i had a sneaky look up at the car to see if there were any onlookers observing my shame  Good, there was nobody about so I high tailed it back up to the car , nimble as a mountain goat despite two bad knees, before I had to answer any awkward questions like, "Any luck?" or "Anything biting?". I shall return,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but not in daylight in January  I'll post a few photos of the fish that i didnt catch, and a nice video to let you see what it was like there

Thanks Jay, I have two of the small backpacks and the big one. I know you cant sit on them but I usually bring a small light stool and that does me. The one in the pic is my old one, havent used it in a while now, the zips are a bit knackered but I only use it for short light sessions, the bigger one holds the same stuff and more, only more comfortably, if that makes sense.

used to fish for them lads down the pier wall at low tide years ago use about size 16 hooks heavy line and a little bit of mack for bait, as soon as you get one hooked drag him up the wall and do a handline pendulum into the ground cast this normally does the trick

That's best report on a blank I have ever read.
I havn't had one so far this year but came very close last night. I should have known better with a cold northeastly picking up but decided to try a local beach for a few hours over high tide. Didn't have a bite until I started packing up and reeled in one of the rods to find a small 5 bearded rockling trying to stuff a large crab bait into its mouth.

Great read - Its hard to explain how lonely a blank sometimes can feel - and i think you have managed to put it into words. To be fair, id rather be out on a wind/rain swept rock than my office - even if there was nothing biting. Well done, and best of luck for the next one ;)

aww dave,, i feel your pain man    . but you of all people blanking on your faithfull old throne that is greystones is unheard of :!: :!: :!: i think you should be checking if your furry wee friends have changed religion and discovered voodoo!! there may very well be a little red imax floatie suit wearing doll down there with pins in him     see if appeasing them with a ritualistic offering of a few free mackie fillets will abate them
