Co, Sligo beach marks, 04th & 18th of January 2011

Thu Jan 20, 2011 2:28 am

People: Jan 4 myself & Polaris(Jamie) 18th myself

Duration: Few hours

Tide: Flood

Weather: wet windy sunny & cold

Bait: Mack & Sandeel

Rigs: 2 & 3 Hook Flappers

Results: 2 Sea Trout & 2 Flounder

Report:

Was itching to get out for my first session of the year & wet a line so arranged to meet up
with polaris at the beach mark, I arrived first the sky looked clear, wind light & good surf running , everything was looking good.
I got set up & put a 2 & 3 hook flapper out, one at distance the other in close, Jamie soon arrived down along with the rain
Jamie got set up & I got a good bite on the rod in close, ran over & reeled in my first fish of the year a nice wee Sea Trout 8) happy days at this stage the rain was belting down on us  & the wind getting strong, fishing was very slow & tough for the next few hours with not a bite  took one last cast for the road before we packed up as we were soaked to the skin at this stage & as I was reeling in my lines I felt a bit of weight pulling back, thought to myself must be some the rack in the current but as it came close I could see a fine flounder come to the surface that measured just under 37cm :D biggest I’ve had from this mark & another species for the this year, even though we got a good soaking it was well worth it & a good laugh with a couple of fish.

18th

As I working close to a few beaches during the week & wanted to get out for my second session of the year I kept the rods in the car & brought bit of frozen bait with me just in case  ..Sneaked of work for few hours & made my down to the nearest beach for a cast.
Arrived to a nice surf & quiet strand got set up quickly & within five minutes got a good bite & reeled in fine little sea trout few quick pics & back she went, missed a few bites over the next hour but picked up a nice Flounder in the mid twenty’s near the end of the session good to be out again & roll on the next session...
