People: Myself
Duration:8.30pm -10.15
Tide:High tide 9.10
Weather:Clear, calm, bit of surf
Bait: black lug, mac, razor, crab, all frozen
Rigs: 2 hook flattie rig and a one up one down flapper
Results: sea mouse (rockling 3 bearded) flounder
I pushed myself out the door for the first trip of 2011 and headed to the local. It would have been a nice night for a walk but I was carrying to much gear and didn't go all the way to where I wanted to go. I bumped into Paul Skelly who kindly gave me a roll of tape as I had forgotten mine.
I got set up with two rods out, both at short distance. The baits went untouched for a while but after an hour I had my first fish of 2011, a three bearded sea mouse (rockling.) I had a nice little flounder on the next cast. The other rod was set up with bigger baits on size 1 hooks and they were almost untouched for the session.
I packed it in shortly after ten and headed for home. A nice night to be out. Little did I know that bigger fish were in the general area.
Picture of the flounder in the camera, I'll try to upload it later.

I have to say that the last three times i fished Killiney I had crap results. When you think that I fished for 2 hours last night in ideal circumstances and I didn't catch anything of note. At least two years ago I would have had another 15 whiting or so for that time. Ok there are a few decent one off catches showing up but bugger all other than that. Has anyone else noticed much fewer whiting about?

i know what your saying
but a rockling or doggie is better than a blank in my opinion

I have definitely noticed less whiting been caught...last year was the same! I caught more small codling last year than whiting but they dont seem to have grown up and stuck around unfortunately

Fished tonight with Mark straight out from the carpark! Was slow enough I had a coalie, rockling, whiting and flounder.
There was other lads fishing the rough ground up from us they probably got on better!
