3 Jan 2011 Antrim codling, if only they were bigger.......

Wed Jan 05, 2011 1:40 am

2 of us fished a redbay rock mark yesterday evening in the pissin rain, up to high water at 10.30pm. Were there for about 4 hours.

Used lug, rag and squid.

Ended up with 4 very small codling and 2 dogs, even one of those was very small. I felt there was a chance of decent codling but the conditions were so bad we quit at just before high water, should have been persevering for another couple of hours but we were drenched and shaking.

Only 1 of the codling were deeply hooked, thankfully!

Al,

I'm tempted to put up a pic of a fish I caught in Dec 05, just to prove they exist. It was caught from a boat but only 150 yards off the rock mark in the report above. A Red Bay red cod too. It took a chunk of frozen mackerel.

Here he is. Its my cousin Michael holding it.

Edit; He is holding it out at arms length and he is 6'4, it looks about 12lb here but it was 5.5lb.
Weve fished this area several times since and only caught dogs, coley and pollack (not that big). But we'll keep trying.,....
