Portrush, East Strand beach tues 28th Dec

Thu Dec 30, 2010 3:21 pm

People:myself and a mate

Duration:10am to 2pm

Tide:

Weather:dry, no rain or wind

Bait:mack and squid

Rigs:2 up one down

Results: Plaice x2

headed to this beach on tues morning as i hadnt been out in ages. i was told this beach was decent for a bash and we thought why not. the snow was gone and it was a blistering 6 degrees out there now!! lol

set up on the beach with frozen bait ony ass we couldnt get any live stuff at all due to the bad weather. opted for mack, squid and blueys tho the latter never got used.

i landed a double of plaice on squid and mackeral. one being very small and the other weighted in over 1lb. this was dinner for the evening.

sadly that was out lot for the day and we never caught anything else which was disappointing. very busy beach with walkers and pain in the arses dogs over the place.

i have pics on my moble and i will uploaded later

that was a good result for daylight fishing man :P i can't remember the last time i got a plaice over a pound :( . we usually walk a half mile up the beach from the carpark to try to avoid the masses as it can still be a busy beach even in the depths of winter. but you do need to keep an eye on your gear as the dogs can make off with your bait or cock a leg on your box

i usually find if the fishing starts off good it either stays good or stops completely and i catch little or nothing else after half and hour. theres no middle ground

Well done on getting out for a session, thank goodness the snow has gone eh! You got a couple of nice flounder for your effort and trouble going out which is great. Good luck this year, hope it's a good one for you 8)

Plaice have a better rep than flounder in general, but I love flounder and I think a lot of people like them. I'd rather have a flounder on my plate than a plaice, plaice arent to everyones taste even though they have a big name commercially, my Ma cooked some Donegal catch breaded plaice a while back, it was inedible. I had to spit it out, the strongest plaice I ever tasted.

Flounder are good fish in my book.
