Im a beginner to this shorefishing. Decided i had to try out some beach fishing and my new rod. I tried long strand near rocks at Clonakilty end for whatever was about. There was not much surf as there was no wind. I caught the tide just as it started to rise and intended to fish into the dark.(all good conditions I read on this site). Spotted a seal but not sure thats a good thing. My first cast was good so i settled down for a fish. Soon I was getting some tiny tugs on the line but nothing on when i tried it. My bait was getting eaten by something, crab I suppose. This was the pattern for the session. Every bait was getting chewed but no fish. I stayed as long as could and headed off. No fish but still a nice evening away from it all.
Am I doing something stupid? Is long strand any good?
Where could I try for fish this time of year around west cork
any advice would be gratefully received

Scale down the hook size to 1/0. The 4/0 is probably a bit too big for many of the shore species.

That was me surfing in front of you. You were fishing onto a sandbar. you would have been better of fishing alongside the rocks, or casting really short into the channel about 15ft out.
