Report:

SATURDAY 20TH NOVEMBER BALLYCASTLE 4PM - 9PM
we decided to give this beach a go as liam was wanting to get out with us again and i thought it was time to get him away from the east coast for a change. the beaches on the east coast were pretty heavily laden with weed and kelp anyhow so it would have been a real pain pulling weed out of your traces all night. so with the north coast decided on we all hit the road and got set up in quick time. as we were setting up another angler who was fishing on his own came over for a chat telling us that he hed been there from just after lunch and got diddly squat during the day and only started catching once the light began to fade. he had one nice flounder at about a pound so hopes were high for the evening session ahead of us . 3 hook flappers were the order of the day and the rod tips were nodding away from the start to the end with the hordes of pin whiting expertly stripping every hook in front of them with only the odd one getting hooked up on the size 2 hooks. the biggest fish of the session was a few coalies and a flounder all around the 30cm mark. and the end result was me getting 1 whiting, 1 pollock, 3 coalfish and 6 flounder. jordan had 1 coalfish and 1 whiting and liam stormed off into first place with over 20 fish of the same variety. it seemed his size 4 hooks were resulting in more hook ups than our size 1 and 2 hooks. nothing of any size but every one caught and it stayed dry at least

SATURDAY 27TH NOVEMBER PORTRUSH & PORTSTEWART HARBOURS 7.30PM - MIDNIGHT
just me and jordan on this one. with this cold snap we decided on staying close to the car for our fishing and the drive up to the north coast was a slow one as we passed ballymena doing 20mph on the motorway. it was mental. there were stretches of the road where you could'nt even see the road markings as everything was frozen over . so what would normally be a 1hr 10min car journey ended up taking over 2 hours. thankfully the conditions (and roads) were a lot better the closer we got to the coast. we started at portstewart and ended up in portrush for a chuck before heading home again. the winter coalfish were plentyfull at both marks and were hammering anything put in front of them. they were all around th 30cm size but put up a wee scrap as we were only using 1oz cast weight 6ft spinning rods on 10lb line. no sense on going overkill with the beachcasters at these marks at this time of year. you may as well get a bit of fun out of whats out there in front of you . between the 2 marks i ended up with 22 coalfish and 2 pouting and jordan had 37 coalfish, 4 pollock and 1 pouting. no monsters, but plenty of craic on the light tackle the drive home was a long one as a lot of the roads were frozen over and there were plenty of half-wits willing to put their lives on the line driving like complet idiots . as we left portrush and starting heading inland the roads were like sheet ice . so i took it easy at a sensible 20mph and an idiot in an audi flew past me as if i was stationary fishtailing up the road. as we got towards ballymena the outside temp gauge on the motor was reading -9 and we saw a big accident where a car had spun out and ended up 40 yards into a field. as we passed it a tractor was pulling the motor out of the field and there were cops and ambulances on scene. i listened to the news the next day and it did'nt get a mention so thankfully no one must have been hurt. but i could'nt help wonder if it was that moron in the audi who had passed us earlier . if it was, hell slap it up him as it might serve as a lesson for the future

Fair play for getting out and braving the elements im dying to get out but have been looking after Dylan for the last few days as the wife was away, hopfully ill get out in the next few days, as for the idiot in the Audi whats the difference between a hedgehog and an audi? the pricks are on the inside of an Audi

nice sessions there al' did the same as yourself down at malin head last week, used the small ugly stick with 10lb braid. the coalies on light gear they are good crack, and beats watching motionless tips of beachcasters all day

well done mate, good to see your still pulling them out.hoping to be based back at home for a while in the new year so i'll have to get a race out with you, think i've landed about 12 fish since we were last out . unbeliveable concidering i work on the water. guess you and the wee man are my lucky mascotts

nice result there. i was suppost to go to portstewert on sat morning but with the weather we didnt chance it.

Well done again, great flounder there and more pouting too!, was thinkin about you getting the pouting at Waterfoot pier when I was at it last night, I'm still lookin my first one.

Fair play lads great to see a bita cold weather not keeping use from the bita fishing,nice selection of fish as always and you do rite crawling home to dangerous, any knuckle head can drive fast in a straight line once a car looses control in snow or ice your just a passenger jump in the back and and say a prayer .great report again.

very true man . sounds like your due a session at the weekend man lets just hope this bloody snow clears up so you can at least get out over the door

cheers man. like i was telling liam at the weekend. at this time of year we would'nt bother going out fishing until dusk. fishing in these tempreatures on shallow beaches during the day is a dead loss gotta get yourself into deeper water as a lot of the fish seem to be holding furthur out. but some good tides starting from this weekend should return better results

very good paul, i clicked on the link . as for jordan, he's got the heart of a lion man if he had his way we would have fished on until about 3am. but i knew the roads were gonna be dodgey enough so i reckoned it was better to air on the side of caution

thanks man. size 4 hook with rag or lug just dropped over the edge 2 hours either side of high water should do the trick for a pouting at that mark man

thanks man. having the motor close by is an absolute life saver at this time of year . just jump in every so often and kick the engine over and get the heater on and it soon thaws the old fingers out . as for the idiots who'd risk their lives to save 20mins on a journey. i reckon thats darwinism at work . just natures way of thinning the herd of a few muppets
